The Resonating Soul

The real food of the soul is divine music. Those who don't even know the reality of the soul how can they devise a melody that will shake it. We are given a very less knowledge concerning the soul. Only the creator of the soul, Allah, can give us the melody that will move it.

The true song is the one which is sung by the Ruh and heard by the Ruh

What happens when you are moving the knob of the radio? You are tuning it to a particular station. When the frequency of the internal circuitry matches frequency of the station you wish to listen to, it starts to resonate. This resonance enables you to clearly hear the station you wish to. What happened to Najashi RA when Jabir RA was reciting the Holy Quran to him? The inscription on his soul started resonating with the words of the Holy Quran and he started weeping. The effect the Holy Quran had on his heart made it crystal clear to him that it' has the same source as Taurah and Injeel.

All of us are born on true nature (fitrah). The moral laws within us, the divine verdicts inscribed on our soul are enough for our guidance but this world takes us away from our real essence. We start forgetting our purpose of life. At that time the Az Zikr (Holy Quran) reminds us why we were sent to this world. The non-believers, if they posses fitrat e saleema (sound nature), their souls experiences a shiver as they go through the Holy Quran. Many non-believers enter into the fold of Islam on simply hearing the Holy Quran. Many get convinced on the truth of Islam when they listen to the recitation of the Holy Quran even when they don't understand it. This divine melody has the power to penetrate into the soul and shake it, and its meanings have the muscle to influence sound minds.

The battle between our soul and animalistic body continues. The soul continually forces us to associate ourselves with Allah, as the soul has direct connection with Allah. The animalistic body focuses on its material wants only. A successful person is one whose soul wins, and the looser is one who listens to the animalistic needs alone. We are made to go through various exercises which make us understand our true self. We are not human beings on a spiritual journey; we are spiritual beings on a human journey. A soul which is more influencing than the body, with which it is merged, can experience the marvels of Holy Quran more. For the believers, when the Ayaat of Quran are recited to them their Imaan increases. The soul (ruh) starts resonating with the words of the Holy Quran, which in turn moves the spiritual heart (qalb)
and that brings a shiver in the human body through the physical heart (fuaad).

They say music is the food for the soul. The musical instruments which come from the materials of the earth are able to move the human body alone. No wonder you see the people dancing on listening to the music. Even the one who's not paying any real attention to it starts to tap his feet. This feeling of resonance is something that gives you an illusion of sukun. The dancing body, the resonating body feels that it is experiencing the sukun, whereas the musical instruments only move the outer body. The inner body still awaits its food. You keep on feeding the body, and forget the soul. The soul does complain in the beginning. The anxiety you experience after listening to the music, when you are new to it, is because of the protest of the soul. Later on you get immune to it. You put so much dirt on your spiritual heart (qalb) that it forgets to resonate or protest. The real food of the soul is divine music. Those who don't even know the reality of the soul how can they devise a melody that will shake it. We are given a very less knowledge concerning the soul. Only the creator of the soul, Allah, can give us the melody that will move it.

نغمہ وہی ہے نغمہ جس کو روح سنے اور روح سناۓ

The true song is the one which is sung by the Ruh and heard by the Ruh

The sukun experienced by the dancing soul is inimitable. Each and every Ayah of the Holy Quran is truly a sign. Its unique genre, its literary perfection, its brave challenges and its accuracy are truly perfect miracles, but perhaps the greatest miracle of all is its ability to bypass the material world and reach the soul and tell it directly ' I am nothing else except the word of God'. When you want Allah to talk to you, open up the Holy Quran and read it. Beautify it with your voice, and make it the hub of your thoughts. If at once you don't feel the resonating soul, don't worry, the Holy Quran is doing its job. It has the remedy to all problems. It is removing the dirt which is already there. When the dirt is removed, you will experience the soul resonating.

You have solved many mysteries of knowledge, and you are still unable to reach the soul. You are still unable to feel your connection with Allah. If you want to experience the sweetness of faith, if you want to have super-natural proofs for the truth of Islam, open up the Quran and Recite! Recite the divine words. Feel that this ruh (Quran) has been sent by Allah through the ruh (Angel Jibreel) and is descending directly on your ruh (soul). A time will come when with each word of the Holy Quran your Spiritual heart (qalb) will resonate and your soul will dance with the divine music and your human-self will get purified and it will experience the unimaginable sukun.

    SubhanaALLAH!

    Very right....

The Quranic Ayahs have indeed an immense influence on one's soul, it is us who neglect our conscience's call.. so much that he hibernates because of our sheer ignorance towards our soul and intense focus on body alone. Even non muslims believe that this Book has some magnificent power that attracts the reader or if recited, its even more convincing, SubhanaALLAH.

May Allah let me tune my soul to the melodious channel of Qur'an and may I carry it practically in my life. Aameen.

one should read kitab sirr al asrar by Shaikh al sayyid abd al qadir al jeelani (rahimahullah). he has beautifully expalined various stations of the heart.
also other islamic mystical books of Shaikh Ali hujweri (rahimahullah). the book is Kashf al Mahjub.

Islamic sufis have explained these concepts in such a detail. i am not talking about some so called sufi hippies, who have nothing to do with islam. I am talking about true islamic sufis who have lived in Islamic tradition from centuries. Practising the "IHSAAN" told by our prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). like Imam Ghazali, Maulana Rumi, Mujaddid alf e Thani, Sayyidna Jafar as Sadiq, Imam abu hanifah etc..

Ofcourse, lot has been said on the topic before. The ultimate fact still remains 'beauty cannot be elaborated, it has to be felt'. So, the purpose of such works is to awaken a desire in people to feel the marvels and beauty of the Qur'an themselves, for surely, its marvels will never cease.

    Muhammad Asad Khan said...

i dont remember the exact hadith but it goes like this "la tsnqidu ajaaibuhu" ie. its miracles will never cease (the Qur'an). the learned will never feel exhausted from it, the reader will never be bored by it and its miracles will never cease. INDEED YA ALLAH! your book is the greatest miracle of all times.

even verses where we feel that they have no extra meaning, there also Allah has given an ocean of meaning. for example the story of the sleepers or the Ashab E Kahf has such a deep and allegorical meaning which is not apparent to every reader.

The verse of the light in Sura Nur (Verse 35) is explained by Imam Ghazali in a complete book called "Mishkat al Anwar". So deep so mystical.

    "LIGHT UPON LIGHT"
    (sura noor 35)

The complete hadith goes like this :

Harith al-A’war (RA) narrated: I passed by the mosque and found the people plunged in to chatter. I went to Ali (RA) and said to him, “O Commander of the Believers! Have you not observed that people are engaged in chatter”? He asked me if that was so and I said, “Yes.” He said, “Indeed,. I had heard Allah’s Messenger (SAW) say that there would soon come a fitnah (trial) and I asked him how we could come out of it. He said that it was the Book of Allah which contains an account of those before us and news of those who will follow us and commands on what we encounter. It is an unmistakable judgement, not a jest. If any of the despotic abandons it then Allah will divide him into pieces. And, if anyone seeks guidance in something other than it, then Allah will leave him astray. It is Allah’s (firm) strong rope. It is the wise reminder. It is the straight path. It is whereby desires cannot divert and tongues cannot be confused. The scholars can never be satiated with it. It does not become stale by much repetition and its wonders are never exhausted. It is the Book about which the jinn were not shy to say on hearing it:

“'We have really heard a wonderful Recital! It gives guidance to the Right, and we have believed therein” (Al-Quran 72:1-2)

He who confirms it,. speaks the truth, and he who abides by it (in action), is rewarded, and he who judges by it, is just, and he who invites to it, is guided on the straight path. Take it to yourself, O A’war!”

(Jami Tirmidhi, Book on Virtures of the Holy Qur'an, classified as 'Daeef' by Al-Albani)
